Zero Clearance Wood Burning fireplaces come in a variety of sizes and configurations including see-through, three-sided and corner models.
These manufactured fireplaces, with their metal vent systems, enable the installation of a wood burning fireplace, often at a fraction of the cost of a masonry fireplace. The installation systems for these fireplaces are very straightforward for any homeowner or builder. There are several grades of heating capability: primarily decorative with some radiant heat, open circulating with a fan, and air-tight units which can be used for primary heating.
For finishing, clean-faced radiant models provide the best opportunity to duplicate a masonry fireplace because of their ability to be finished right to the opening with non-combustible material. This is exemplified by the FMI snap-in brick system which uses real refractory bricks grouted into place.
